Description
The evolution of the World Wide Web has led to increased connectivity, but it has also raised concerns about user privacy and control over their data. This has led to the development of initiatives like the European Union's Next Generation Internet and Tim Berners-Lee's Social Linked Data (SoLiD) project. Solid aims to decentralize the web and give users complete control over their data. However, one of the major challenges in realizing a decentralized web is trustworthiness. A decentralized web requires trust-awareness, where web applications need to autonomously evaluate and establish trust without relying on centralized infrastructure.
Solid Pods are at the heart of the SoLiD ecosystem and provide a versatile foundation for a range of user-centric applications, including decentralized social media, collaborative authoring, and file management. Solid holds the potential to serve as an innovative solution for reshaping the booking system, especially within co-working spaces. This involves the potential of Solid by enabling users to seamlessly store personal information on their pod, offering an improved booking experience. Simultaneously, it aims to provide co-working space providers with a robust platform for managing their business details. The master's thesis will focus on exploring trust-awareness and its integration in co-working space applications within the Solid framework, emphasizing user empowerment, data privacy, and the evolution toward a decentralized and trustworthy web architecture.
The objective of this master thesis is to find an approach or a combination of approaches to solve the mentioned problem in the context of trust-aware data processing for decentralized web applications within the given use case. This particularly includes the state of the art regarding Solid and Decentralized web applications, and their trust awareness. The demonstration of feasibility with an implementation demonstrator of the concept is part of this thesis as well as a suitable evaluation with exemplary use cases.
